Join us as we explore the region and learn about its history, culture and heritage; drive past quaint villages and fertile plantations on the way to the Pachira Lodge dock where you’ll embark on a cruise to the peaceful Tortuguero Canals a network of natural and man-made waterways; As you cruise the canal in your covered boat, keep your eyes open as you might be able to spot wildlife, such as sloths, howler monkeys, crocodiles and many waterfowl species, participate in a guided walk through the tropical rain forest using a network of above-ground cemented pathways. At the dock, you’ll be served a seasonal fruit buffet and tropical refreshments. Afterwards, re-board your transportation for the short drive to the train stop where you’ll depart on an open-air train that made its first trip in 1950 and gave birth to the banana industry. Upon arrival at the stop, you will re-board your transportation and head back to the ship via a scenic coastal road.

Enjoy a mostly coastal drive south to lovely Punta Uva Beach for a kayaking adventure along the river that meanders through the surrounding rainforest. After a brief orientation to help you maximize the experience, you will paddle the kayak upstream as the guide provides commentary. The calm waters make for easy paddling and the heavily vegetated riverbanks offer excellent opportunities to view indigenous wildlife. The animals feel safe in this serene setting and are typically out in the open, so keep an eye out for monkeys, sloths and tropical birds. The beach at Punta Uva is also wonderfully tranquil and you will have time to enjoy the laid-back ambiance. Feel free to bask in the sun, stroll along the shore, take a refreshing swim and do most anything else that suits you. For the ultimate view, just take a short hike to Grape Point, which is named for the abundant sea grapes there.

Raft down one of the world’s most celebrated white-water rivers as it winds through a dense rainforest teeming with wildlife, especially birds. After departing from the pier, you will settle in for a scenic drive into Costa Rica’s interior north of Limon, where the Reventazon River winds through the primordial rainforest on its way to the Caribbean Sea. The river is one of the world’s top sites for easy white-water rafting and is incredibly scenic, especially in the section that you will raft.

Puerto Viejo will give you the relaxing atmosphere of a beach town as well as an insight to the Caribbean feel and “Pura Vida” lifestyle represented by the locals. Start your beautiful journey with an exciting pontoon boat ride through the world-famous Tortuguero canals. Admire the rich flora and fauna, wonderful views of the lush jungle foliage that mirrors on the water; orchids, water lilies, birds, monkeys, sloths, and toucans are common in this unique system of natural and artificial canals that are used as waterways for transportation and exploration.

Snorkel the azure waters adjacent to the of Belize's Barrier Reef, the world’s largest living barrier reef. This is a shallow water entry, well suited for beginners and intermediate snorkelers. Discover the ancient Mayan archeological site of Nim Li Punit along with its treasures and visit the Belize Spice Farm and Botanical Gardens to see how they cultivate and harvest exotic spices. Board your air-conditioned bus for a scenic ride to the archeological site of Nim Li Punit, "Large Hat" in the Mayan Kekchi language. The site was so named due to a depiction on a Maya stela of one of its rulers wearing a very large headdress. This unique Mayan ceremonial site has a small museum and a welcome center where you can see some of the large stelas with well-preserved Maya drawings and writing, as well as artifacts. It also has a ball-court in the center of the complex and an observatory in one of the plazas. The entire site is shaded by a canopy of large trees, providing a comfortable environment for viewing this very interesting Mayan site.

Board your sightseeing motor launch directly from the Harvest Caye Marina to explore Mother Nature's amazing saltwater mangrove estuaries and its inhabitants. The seating in your motor launch is comfortable and the canopied top affords protection from the warm tropical sun, so just sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery. Your experienced captain will slowly maneuver your vessel out of the marina and onto the protected waters of the Placencia Lagoon. He will chart a course towards one of the shallow manatee hang-out areas. More often than not, manatees will be in these areas grazing and relaxing. Your knowledgeable onboard nature guide will provide you with a detailed narrative about the manatees and their life cycle in the tropical waters of Belize.

The beautiful turquoise waters south of Great Stirrup Cay are perfect for a leisurely guided kayak tour. After a brief orientation on how to use your two-person kayak, you’ll paddle over the shallow clear waters where you may encounter a variety of marine life.
