During the Soviet era, collective farming was practiced, in which government-owned farms banded together to grow crops. When Latvia gained its independence in 1991, farms could be privately owned again. The farm that you will visit grows an abundance of raspberries and strawberries, as the conditions in this part of Latvia are quite favorable for both crops. Growing berries became even more widespread following the Soviet era because the farmers could directly reap the benefits. You may have the opportunity to pick your own berries in the fields and enjoy them while lingering over a cup of tea with the owners of the farm. Feel free to ask them about their lives before and after Soviet rule. It is sure to be an eye-opening experience.

Head to the picturesque town of Sigulda, located about 30 miles from Riga. During the drive you will enjoy the beautiful forest scenery and magnificent views of the River Gauja valley. Sigulda is often called the Latvian Switzerland and is well known as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Latvia. Visit the 13th century Turaida Castle and the fortification tower, where you can enjoy the picturesque landscape from a bird's-eye view. By the Turaida church under an old linden tree, you will find the grave of a young girl - the Rose of Turaida - the heroine of a true love story from the 17th century. Riga, the capital of Latvia, was founded more than 800 years ago and has now grown into the most cosmopolitan city in the Baltic States. Founded in 1201 during the Middle Ages, Riga was developed into a Hanseatic city, and by the 18-th and 19-th century had grown into one of Europe’s leading ports and industrial centers. As a cosmopolitan city Riga was once revered as “the Paris of the North”. Years of independence and becoming a member of the European Union have brought great changes and development to the city and to the country itself. Enjoy a short driving along the boulevards, parks and charming green sports of Riga. During this part of the tour enjoy the opportunity to admire various unforgettable examples of Art Nouveau buildings, as well as Latvian National Museum of Art, the Monument of Freedom erected in 1935 on the donations of citizens of Latvia, Latvian University, National Opera and other remarkable buildings. Begin with a scenic drive through the main sights of Helsinki towards the picturesque town of Porvoo, the second-oldest town in Finland and a favorite of poets and artists. Porvoo was an important trading center as early as the Middle Ages. Enjoy a walking tour along its cobblestone streets lined with 16th century wooden houses. Browse in the handicraft shops before you continue to Savijarvi Mansion, a private home where the family shows you around and treats you as a personal guest.

This full day tour starts with a visit to the Song Festival Grounds with a capacity for 300,000 spectators and up to 30,000 performers sing. A short stop will provide you with an impression of the festivals that are held here every five years. Continue to Pirita, the beachside location of the yachting complex built for the 1980 Olympic Games where the 16th century ruins of St. Bridget’s Convent can also be seen. A short drive follows to Tallinn’s Upper Town, passing ancient walls and tower gateways. Disembark your coach at Tall Hermann Tower from where flies the national blue, black and white flag. Your tour begins with a drive through the picturesque Estonian countryside towards one of the oldest towns of Estonia – Rakvere. This town is located about 100 km east of Tallinn. Stop at the Rebala Heritage Reserve to look at an ancient cemetery from the Nordic Bronze.

Depart from the pier for a short drive to Tallinn’s Old Town, where ancient walls and tower gateways can be seen. At Tall Herman Tower, walk the short distance up Toompea Hill to Palace Square. Visit the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral which dominates the city skyline, with numerous gold icons and mosaics inside. Proceed to the scenic viewpoint over the Lower Town rooftops, before rejoining your bus.
