This comprehensive tour of Aomori begins with a visit to the Sannai Maruyama ruins that date back more than 4,000 years to the Jomon Period. An exhibition room holds various artifacts from the site. The ruins were revealed during excavations for a baseball stadium in 1992.

The Nebuta-no-Ie Warasse Museum opened in 2011 and showcases the amazing, colorful Aomori Nebuta Festival. The term 'Nebuta' refers to giant illuminated floats used in the procession, of which five are on display. Enjoy a short film that explains the festival.

Leave the port of Aomori by coach, so that you can sit back and enjoy a panoramic drive through the scenic countryside to the city of Goshogawara.

Drive 25 miles along National Highway Route 7 from Aomori to Hirosaki city, situated on the southern part of the Tsugaru plain and known for its castle, cherry blossoms and apples. The atmosphere of this former Samurai town is quite compelling.

This morning, visit the Hakodate Morning Market comprised of roughly 280 stores and located near the JR Hakodate Station. Enjoy some fresh seafood and lively atmosphere of the market. Next, visit the Goryokaku Tower for a view of the graceful Goryokaku pentagonal structure. This was built in 1864 for the defense of Hokkaido against would-be invaders. The grounds are now a lovely park open to the public. Then walk to the Hakodate Bugyosho, or Magistrate’s Office, opened in 2010 and located in Goryokaku Park. It was rebuilt as a faithful copy of the original building using traditional methods. Remove your shoes, in keeping with Japanese custom, and step inside the building to view the historical exhibits. Return to the ship after your tour.

Capture the flavor of Hokkaido—a province that is distinctly different from the rest of Japan—as you visit the Hakodate Morning Market. This bustling epicenter of Hokkaido commerce is comprised of roughly 280stores and is located near the JR Hakodate Station. Enjoy some fresh seafood and lively atmosphere of the market; then, you will drive through the downtown core of Hakodate. Board the aerial cableway up to the summit of Mt Hakodate. This lovely wooded mountain rises to more than 1,200 feet at the end of the peninsula on which the city sits. Needless to say, it commands a stunning, panoramic view over Hakodate. Return to the city for a visit to Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse area, remodeled in 1988 as part of a waterfront area redevelopment with a theme of combining the old and the new. From the warehouse area you will return directly to the ship.

This panoramic tour is designed to be enjoyed primarily from the perspective offered by your comfortable motor coach seat. You’ll begin with a drive through Hakodate city itself; then the coach will head up to the viewpoint on Mt Hakodate. From the top you can look back over the Hakodate Peninsula, with panoramic vistas of the city, the ocean and the horizon. Drive pass Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse area, remodeled in 1988 as part of a waterfront area redevelopment with a theme of combining the old and the new. Return to the ship, just a 30-minute drive away.

Drive one hour north from Hakodate to the Onuma area. Onuma is known for its three lakes--Lake, Onuma, Lake Konuma and Lake Junsai. Lake Onuma was formed when Mt. Komagatake erupted and the lava flow from the mountain dammed the river, creating the lake. You'll set out on a 30-minute boat ride on the lake. After your cruise, continue to Onuma Quasi-National Park. This is the birthplace of Hokkaido's resort industry, and the ideal place to connect with the island's natural environment. There are multiple small islands on Lake Onuma. You will take a 40 minute hike along a road that allows you to walk from island to island by crossing the bridges yourself. Enjoy the island hopping and the natural beauty of the park. You will make a brief stop at the local winery and taste local wine for yourself before you return to the ship.

Set out for an afternoon at the Kowloon Markets, where truth is stranger than fiction and, in one place or another, virtually every imaginable consumer good can be purchased. You'll begin with a visit to the Yuen Po Street Bird Garden. This charming Chinese-style garden is the favorite gathering place of Hong Kong's songbird owners, who carry their beloved pets in intricately-carved cages. It's the see-and-be-seen scene for avian afficionados. All manner of beautiful birds are found here, as well as an intriguing selection of traditional bird-keeping paraphernalia.

Hong Kong was once a remote corner of the Chinese Empire, dominated by powerful clans and wealthy Mandarins. Today you'll head to the New Territories, which are not new at all -- they became part of Hong Kong in 1898 and comprise 86% of its land mass.

Hong Kong is one of the world's greatest food cities. For visitors, there's no better way to get to know the city's culture than by cooking and eating like a local. Indulge in dim sum -- a style of Cantonese food prepared in small, bite-sized portions. It's easily the city's favorite dining experience. Hong Kong's well-respected Six Senses Cooking Studio believes in promoting a healthy lifestyle through food and sharing authentic experiences. Follow a professional chef from the studio through a bustling market. Then, under his/her guidance, you'll create your very own Chinese dim sum meal.

Board a traditional-style Chinese floating pagoda to take in the dramatic views of Hong Kong Island from the water. You'll tour one of the world's most exotic ports on a narrated cruise around Victoria Harbour. At night, Hong Kong's spectacular skyline becomes a dazzling neon cityscape. Pristine skyscrapers are lit up against the night sky, including the Bank of China, the HSBC headquarters and the International Finance Centre -- the tallest building in Hong Kong. Enjoy unlimited drinks from the bar as you watch the sights and the city lights.

Cross under Victoria Harbour by way of the vehicle tunnel for a drive to the south side of Hong Kong Island. You'll pass lovely Repulse Bay with panoramic views of one of Hong Kong's most popular and beautiful beach, along with the colonial-style hotel that has long been a landmark here. Explore Aberdeen, where fishermen and their families live on junks and sampans. During a brief stop at one of the city's jewelry workshops, you'll see the wonderful craftsmanship of the goods and enjoy a refreshment in the exclusive showroom. Finally, you will head up to Victoria Peak by funicular tram for a breathtaking view of the harbor and Kowloon on China's mainland.

Discover out-of-the-way treasures, scenic beauty, spectacular bridges, mountains and historic sites as you travel to Lantau Island -- Hong Kong's largest outlying island.

The Tamatorizaki Observatory is located on the Hirakubo Peninsula and is famous for its picturesque scenery. The color of the sea may differ depending on distance and time of day, but the natural gradation of color does not disappoint those who visit.

Depart the pier and head to Kabira Bay, a picture-perfect landscape with powder-white sands, dense vegetation and waters in mesmerizing shades of turquoise and emerald. Small boats float just offshore, lending to the scene’s photogenic quality. No wonder the bay has been designated as a Place of Scenic Beauty and awarded three stars by the Michelin Guide.

Discover Banna Park, a spacious nature reserve located just a couple of miles north of Ishigaki City, positioned around a hill. It is divided into four zones and includes a skyline area, all of which are linked by paths and roads. Kabira Bay is the one of the finest sightseeing spots in Japan, given a high rating in the Michelin Green Guide for its beautiful emerald-colored water and white sandy beach (weather permitting). The black pearls of Kabira Bay are quite famous. A souvenir shop here offers a limited number of Japanese-made black pearl products, difficult to find in other places. Ishigaki Island's retail hotspot is the Euglena Mall, with more than 100 shops. Souvenir shops, snacks, Ishigawa specialties -- whatever you're looking for, you'll enjoy some time shopping here.

Chiran, just nineteen miles south of Kagoshima, is sometimes called Little Kyoto for all the Samurai residences that have been preserved there. Several houses have been preserved along with several beautiful gardens, all approximately 250 years old. The gates to the residences, moss-covered stone walls, hedges and black tile roofs help recapture the flavor of the Edo Period. Several of the residences are still used by the samurais’ descendants. The visit to this historic location will be from the outside only. Next you will tour the Chiran Peace Museum, not far from the Chiran Samurai Houses. This museum explores the background of Japan’s kamikaze pilots. They trained nearby before embarking on suicide missions against Allied sea vessels. The museum includes photos and final letters of the young pilots, many of whom were teenagers, and it makes a plea for World Peace.

Drive to Lake Ikeda, which is the largest lake on Kyushu, about eight miles in circumference with a maximum depth of 700 feet. It is a caldera lake—the result of the collapse of the volcano. The lake serves as a frame for Mt Kaimon—a 3,000-foot volcano that draws comparisons with Mt Fuji for its nearly perfect conical top. Part of Kirishima-Yaku National Park, Mt Kaimon is sometimes called Little Fuji. Arriving at your destination, Ibusuki Hot Springs, you’ll take part in the fun and relaxing sand bath process. The area is known for its natural streams and sand baths heated by subterranean geysers. Geo-thermal geysers and springs heat the sand to approximately 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Don a kimono and lie back in a shallow pit as you are covered with warm sand up to your neck. The sand bath is touted as a tonic for improving circulation and general health. This short, narrated tour begins as you board a motorcoach and drive through the suburbs of Kagoshima. Board a coach at Kagoshima Pier for the drive to the Kagoshima ferry terminal. From here, it’s a 15-minute ferry ride to Sakurajima Island. From an observation point, you will view Mt Sakurajima—a moderately active volcano that rises magnificently above Kinko Bay. Mt Sakurajima faces Kagoshima. A lovely motor coach drive takes you 53 miles outside of Kochi to Murotomisaki in the eastern part of Kochi Prefecture. The cape's name translates to 'blessed with great nature' and you'll understand why when you see the cape jutting out over the Pacific Ocean, separating the Kii Channel from Tosa Bay. This is one of eight 'fine views' in Japan. Due to the area's warm temperatures, even in winter, lush subtropical plants, trees and hibiscus flowers blanket the ground. The colorful coastal plants found in this area are of scientific value, and some of the unusual species of trees are considered Natural Monuments of Japan.

Kochi Castle, the city's most famed landmark, dominates your views from any vantage point. Built by Yamanouchi Kazutoyo following the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, the massive castle took more than 10 years to construct. In 1727, some of the fortress was destroyed in a fire, but later, in 1753, it was reconstructed with the "donjon" and the splendid Otemon Gate remaining as originally constructed. Kochi Castle has undergone several preservations over the years, but it has retained its original palace and the integrity of its architectural style. Inside, many of the ancient rooms are not accessible to the public, but you will find a small museum filled with cultural artifacts. The, or main tower, provides celebrated, panoramic views of the whole city, making it well worth the climb to the top.

Japanese "washi" paper is an iconic piece of Kochi's heritage, having been produced in the prefecture for more than 1,000 years. UNESCO has declared washi paper an Intangible Cultural Heritage Object. The raw materials needed to make the pulp, including the kuozo plant, the mitsumata bush and the gampi tree, all grow in the abundant greenery of the mountainous area, while the nearby Niyodogawa River supplies the water needed to make this fine paper. Your first destination is Oboke, for scenic boat excursion on the Yoshino River. Continue to Nagasaki Peace Park, for a photo stop. Covering eight acres, the park contains a large fountain and different statues and sculptures donated in the name of world peace by various countries and artists around the world. The main statue is 30 feet tall and was commissioned by the city of Nagasaki. It depicts a man with one arm raised to the sky to indicate the threat of nuclear destruction and the other arm held horizontally in a gesture of peace. The man’s eyelids are closed in anguished prayer for those who perished in the bombing.

This museum explores the nationally prominent theme of the history of overseas exchanges. The permanent historical culture zone contains exhibits of valuable materials on the theme of recent historical exchanges with Portugal, the Netherlands, Spain, China and Korea.

Visit Saikai National Park, located 31 miles north of Nagasaki and noted for its beautiful coastline along the Bay of Kujukushima (99 Islands). Dotted in the bay are many small islands, adding further beauty to this intricate setting. A two-hour drive through the rolling countryside from Nagasaki will bring you to the heart of this natural wonderland, where you will take a cruise among the beautiful Kujukushima Islands if weather permits.

Enjoy a scenic drive along the coastal road to the historic city of Shimabara lies about 62 miles east of Nagasaki. En route you will pass picturesque Ariake Bay and head out onto the Shimabara Peninsula. The city itself flourished in the early 17th century after the construction of the magnificent Shimabara Castle. Enjoy a guided visit to the renovated castle, which is now open as a museum of ancient Christian history. On display are old swords, armor and other items from the Edo period.

Leave Osaka port for a full day of sightseeing in Southern Kyoto and Nara. En route, you will visit the town of Fushimi, home to 37 sake breweries. This town is one of Japan's most famous sake-producing regions, as high-quality rice is readily available from the fields of neighboring Shigaken and the final product is easily loaded onto boats for export downriver to Osaka. You will stop at the largest of Fushimi's sake breweries, Gekkeikan Okura Memorial House (or alternative Sake Brewery Museum), with 350 years of tradition. On display are various items related to the process of making Japanese sake. In the southern part of Kyoto you will visit a small city that is historically rich in Heian-Period culture and is home to the Byodo-in Temple--a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The temple was once the villa of Minister Fujiwara Michinaga, the model for the hero in the Japanese classic, The Tale of Genji, and was turned into a temple by his son in 1052. The main hall, called the Phoenix Hall, stands in the beautiful garden and was built in 1053 (you will not go inside the hall). It is one of the most famous historical buildings in Japan and its image graces the back of ten yen coin. The temple's wonderful museum houses the elegant temple bell and other treasures. Next, transfer to Nara, Japan's first real capital. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before visiting the Kasuga Taisha Shrine, founded in 710 in its forest location. This shrine conveys an atmosphere of peace and sanctity perhaps unmatched by any other shrine. The buildings, painted vermilion, showcase the Kasuga style of architecture. Some 3,000 lanterns line the road east from the second torii gate. Beyond the Heiden, a floorless structure built in 1650, the Main Hall is surrounded by an impressive gallery. You will see the Todaiji Temple and the Hall of the Great Buddha, dating from 1709. This is the world's largest wooden structure. The Great Buddha, a National Treasure, was cast in bronze in eight sections over three years, completed in 749. It is one of the largest bronze statues in the world. You will return to Osaka in the late afternoon.

Visit the Fushimi Inari Shrine -- a Shinto shrine famous for its thousands of vermilion red torii gates. These straddle a network of trails behind its main buildings. The trails lead into the wooded forest surrounding the sacred shrine building within the grounds.

A leisurely 30-minute drive north of the city brings you to Santa Lourdes Wharf, where you will embark on an island-hopping boat tour around Honda Bay. Choose from several charming white-sand beaches on the bay where you can swim, snorkel (bring your own equipment) or just take in some sun. Among the more popular islands you will visit are Pandan Island -- a white-sand beach with coral reef nearby which is good for diving and snorkeling -- and Cowrie Island, ideal for diving, snorkeling and fish feeding.

Founded in 1970, the museum features one of the finest modern gardens in Japan and a collection of pottery, wood carvings, and Japanese paintings, dating from 1912 until the present day. Its ceramics collection includes works by such masters as Rosanjin Kitaoji and Kanjiro Kawai, but the museum's gardens are also quite famous. Adachi collected each of the pines and stones featured here from all over the country, creating a beautiful garden filled with love and passion. The garden has been ranked best in the traditional Japanese Garden category since 2003. Browse among the extensive collection of nearly 1,000 items of pottery, wood-carvings, and Japanese paintings dating from as early as 1912.

This half-day excursion incorporates must-see Sakaiminato sights and top attractions that lie further afield. Depart from the pier and travel south to Yonago -- a city with a long history of commerce. It served as a castle town during the Edo Period. A scenic 60-minute motorcoach drive from Yokohama brings you to fascinating Tokyo. The route affords you a glimpse at the world's largest city, including its modern skyscrapers, the Ginza district and other landmarks in the city center.

Head to the Fukagawa area, east of the Sumida River, called the shitamachi (Old Town). Your first stop is at the Fukagawa Edo Museum, nestled in a narrow, tree-lined street among numerous temples and shrines. Peace Memorial Park located in South of Okinawa main land, is known as the area where the last confrontations of the Battle of Okinawa took place. The Peace Memorial Museum established on April 1, 2000 displays the range of individual war experiences. Its purpose is to pass on the message about the cruelty of war and importance of human life.

Walk through the amazing Gyokusendo Cave, located in the Okinawa World theme park. It is a two-mile-long cave renowned for its intricate limestone formations and is the largest cave of its kind in Asia. With 900,000 stalagmites and stalactites and underground streams, the cave offers exquisite and mysterious scenery along its dimly lit path. Continue to the Okinawa Prefectural Peace Memorial Museum. In 1945, a fierce battle took place on these islands. The "typhoon of steel" lasted 90 days and disfigured mountains, destroyed much of the local cultural legacy, and claimed the lives of more than 200,000 people. The Battle of Okinawa was the only ground fighting fought on Japanese soil and was also the largest-scale campaign of the Asia-Pacific War. Even Okinawa's civilians were fully mobilized. A significant aspect of the Battle of Okinawa was the great loss of civilian life. Under the most desperate circumstances, Okinawans directly experienced the tragedy of war, and it is this experience that is at the center of the "Okinawan Heart"-the term that describes a resilient attitude towards life that the Okinawan people have developed, where personal dignity is respected above all else. Okinawans reject any acts related to war and cherish their own culture. The Cornerstone of Peace, located of the hill of Mabuni where one of the fiercest battles took place, stands as a symbol of their loss. At Memorial Park you will glimpse the numerous marble memorials that dedicated to those who lost their lives in the Battle of Okinawa.

Okinawan cuisine is featured at the food stands and restaurants (at your own expense). 'Living exhibits' showcase traditional festivals, cuisine and crafts. Watch villagers create traditional bingata -- stencil-dyed fabrics. You can even try your hand at activities such indigo dyeing, pottery, painting and playing the sanshin guitar (charges apply, at your own expense).

Shurijo Castle Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It shows strong Chinese architectural influence because Okinawa's ancient Ryukyu Kingdom was a vassal state of China. The castle no longer exists -- it was obliterated during the Battle of Okinawa in 1945, rebuilt and opened to the public in 1992, and burned down again in 2019. The surrounding park offers some excellent photo opportunities -- it is home to the Shurei-mon Gate, rebuilt in 1958 and now the symbol of Okinawa. You'll also see the Sonohyan-Utaki-Ishimon Gate -- a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
