MSC's big push
For years, MSC Cruises was best known as a European cruise line with global ambitions. Today, it’s impossible to ignore their growing footprint in North America. With ships sailing or scheduled to sail from Miami, Port Canaveral, New York, and Galveston — and new Alaska service launching out of Seattle in 2026 — MSC is rapidly becoming a household name on this side of the Atlantic.
Their big splash during the Super Bowl with the “Let’s Holiday” campaign featuring Drew Barrymore and Orlando Bloom wasn’t just a flashy ad—it nailed the message with its playful take on American vs. European travel styles. MSC is positioning itself as a cruise line offering European flair with American comfort.
And that blend comes through on World America—whether it’s the food options, the around-the-clock availability, or the familiar sports bar setups. This ship wasn’t retrofitted for the U.S. market. It was designed with American cruisers in mind from day one.

MSC World America service: (Still) A work in progress
Let’s talk service. One of the recurring criticisms MSC has faced since entering the U.S. market has been around service consistency. On our sailing, we found the crew to be warm, polite, and eager to help—but a few operational hiccups stood out.
For example, signing the waiver for the Cliffhanger swing, ropes course, and Jaw drop slide involved long lines that could easily be avoided if the process were moved to the app. We also noticed some confusion among staff about how to book shore excursions on Ocean Cay. And while dinner service was pleasant, it sometimes felt like waiters weren’t fully coordinated—on more than one occasion, two different staff members delivered the same message, almost verbatim.
These aren’t deal breakers, and they’re issues we fully expect MSC to smooth out quickly as they gain more experience with U.S. guests. But they do serve as a reminder that MSC is still fine-tuning parts of its North American playbook.

Ocean Cay: A restored paradise
A standout moment during the sailing was our visit to Ocean Cay, MSC’s private island in the Bahamas. While the island launched in 2019, this was our first time experiencing it—and it absolutely lived up to the hype.
Ocean Cay isn’t just another beach stop. The island used to be an industrial sand mining site, and MSC completely transformed it into a beach paradise. Wide sandy stretches, crystal-clear water, and plenty of room to spread out made it one of the more relaxing private island experiences we've had. Guests can grab lunch from two different venues, explore shops, or take part in excursions like jet skiing, catamaran rides, or even climbing the island’s iconic lighthouse.
For Yacht Club guests, MSC has carved out a private, upscale area so the luxury experience continues even ashore. It’s clear that a lot of thought went into the guest experience on Ocean Cay.
Ocean Cay also plays a key role in MSC’s broader sustainability efforts. The restoration of the island is part of a long-term vision from the Aponte family, who are working to make both MSC Cruises and MSC’s shipping arm more sustainable. During our visit, the MSC Foundation inaugurated the Ocean Cay Marine Preserve research center, focused on coral preservation and marine life research. It’s more than just a good PR story—it’s a real investment in protecting the waters MSC sails through.
Final Take
As we reflected on the experience, the best way we could describe MSC World America is this: it feels unmistakingly Italian. Not just in its heritage, but in how the whole experience is curated. There’s a clear vision throughout—from the ship’s architecture and interior design to the entertainment and ambiance. Everything is elegant, considered, and delivered with a European flair.
At the same time, some of the finer details—especially those tied to logistics and service—could be polished. Think of it like a beautifully tailored suit that could use a little tightening at the seams.
That said, we wholeheartedly recommend MSC—especially their World-class ships—to Cruisebound customers. The product is already strong, and the early kinks we saw are minor in the grand scheme. As MSC continues to grow its U.S. presence, we fully expect them to raise the bar even higher.
